  15. Thank you for looking at VirusNet, an automatic anti-virus and
  16. disaster recovery system from Safetynet, Inc.  VirusNet has
  17. passed the certification tests of independent agencies such as
  18. the National Computer Security Association and provides effective
  19. protection against viruses.

  21. A. Installing VirusNet from Windows
  22.  
  23. 1. Start Microsoft Windows.
  24. 2. Run SETUP.EXE from the directory where VirusNet files are stored.
  25. 3. You will have the option of creating a Program Manager or desktop
  26.    group to launch the VirusNet programs.  If you are not using Program
  27.    Manager or Windows95, add VNWIN.EXE to your menu shell.

  31. The DOS eval is installed by copying the VirusNet files to a directory.

  41. 1. Run VN.EXE to receive a list of command-line options.

  45. 1. Select the "VirusNet" icon or run VNWIN.EXE directly.
  46.    - Extensive context-sensitive help is available by pressing F1.
  47. 2. Click on the "Begin Scan" button from the Express Scan window.

  73.     Disinfection of boot sector viruses has been improved, as can be seen
  74.     from the list below of viruses that were detected previously, but can
  75.     only now be disinfected.

  77. Version 2.23 - minor improvements and changes:

  79.    VirusNet now detects the PKZIP 3.00B Trojan.  This Trojan is, however,
  80.    not a "real" threat, but due to some unfounded hysteria, numerous warnings
  81.    about it are in circulation, far outnumbering actual copies of the
  82.    actual Trojan.

  485. Version 2.22 - major changes:
  486.  
  487.    When a diskette or hard disk was infected with multiple boot sector
  488.    viruses, VirusNet used to refuse to remove the infections, but it will
  489.    now handle this situation properly.
  490.    
  491.    We are continuing with the massive virus renaming that was started
  492.    in version 2.21.  Many older viruses have now been renamed to correspond
  493.    with the new scheme, including the VCL, PS-MPC and IVP-generated viruses.  
  494.    Names like VCL.Genocide.839 have been changed to VCL.839.
  495.  
  496. Version 2.22 - the following problems were found and corrected:
  497.  
  498.    The Skid_Row viruses were not disinfected correctly in 2.21 and earlier
  499.    versions, occasionally resulting in the corruption of the host programs.
  500.  
  501. Version 2.22 - the following false alarms were fixed:

  506. Version 2.22 - minor improvements and changes:

  508.    Disinfection of .EXE files infected with any of the over 100 known
  509.    1808 byte variants of Jerusalem has been improved.  VirusNet can now
  510.    determine if the virus has damaged files during infection, and if
  511.    disinfection is possible, files will be restored to their original size,
  512.    not leaving 1-15 bytes of garbage at the end.
  513.  
  514.    We improved the detection of the viruses generated by the MtE
  515.    supplement of the VIRSIM package.  However, we do not recommend the use
  516.    of this package, and consider it worthless for the purpose of
  517.    evaluating anti-virus products.
